May–July COE quota to increase

16 April 2015 By admin Leave a Comment

Another piece of good news for motor drivers! LTA has announced there will be an increase in the no. of COE quota for the months of May June July, which is 41% more than the Feb-March-April period. During the first quarter we have seen price fluctuates, where prices drop during the introduction of the increment, only to rise back up after the government announced changes to the revised CEVS rebate that will kick start in 1 July 2015.

Looking at the chart from Straits times papers dated  16/04/15, the monthly quota for the CAT A & B for the May-June-July period are 2853 and 1856, up from period of 1973 and 1444 respectively. Looks like its time to head down to the  motor show room again to enquire more on the pricing. Most car owners will aim to get one before 1 July, taking advantage of the CEVS rebate before it change.

Lets not miss out this window opportunity again.

Golf Punk’s Day Off 7: Seletar Country Club

1 April 2015 By admin 1 Comment

I attended this amazing golf tournament yesterday organised by GolfPunk Magazine. Day Off 7, as you can guess means this is their 7th tournament, also celebrating their 7 years of magazine success. Such tournaments are usually fun to play in, as they have prizes  you could win at certain hole, especially the all time favourite hole in one prize. The prize is a watch from Philip Stein, worth like $30,000! Of course, where got so easy right? But then again, usually us golfers will treat this prize like striking 4D or Toto, chances that only comes one in a lifetime, unless of course if you are super pro. Here are some great photos to share

Saw this interesting Tuk-Tuk, so why not take a photo?

Us! before the start of the game. Forced to wear some Muay Thai attire. I avoided wearing the shorts

The hole in one prize that I mentioned. Of course never win.

Identity Theft & Credit Card Fraud – How to Protect Yourself

Identity Theft & Credit Card Fraud – How to Protect Yourself-credence-insurance-agency-steve-wilson

Image via Flickr user Steve Wilson

Identity theft occurs when someone obtains your personal information, such as your credit card data or Social Security number, to commit fraud or other crimes. The Federal Trade Commission estimates that 9 million Americans suffer identity theft annually. It sounds like a big number, but it isn’t.

Do You Need Identity Theft Protection? Before examining the services available, try these common-sense, no-cost measures to protect against identity theft and fraud:

Guard your information online. These days, many of us do most of our shopping and banking on the web. With all those account numbers and passwords floating around, it’s easy for someone to nab your information and go on a spree.

• Clear your logins and passwords. This is especially important if you’ve been working on a public computer. Change logins and passwords monthly.

• Pay for online purchases with your credit card, which has better guarantees under federal law than your online payment services or your debit card.

• Be alert for phishing, a trick in which spam or pop-ups mimic legitimate banks or businesses to obtain your personal information, which they use to access your accounts. Always verify that you’re on a familiar Web site with security controls before entering personal data.

Monitor your bank and credit card statements. Check your accounts regularly so you know when something’s awry. Purchases you didn’t make should be obvious—like a gas fill-up halfway across the country.

Verify your mailing address with the post office and financial institutions.Identity bandits may fill out change of address forms so that delinquent credit notices remain off your paper billing radar.

Monitor your credit report. By law, you’re entitled to a free report every year from each of the three bureaus (Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion).

Shred sensitive documents. Buy a shredder and regularly shred outdated bank statements, credit card applications, bills, and anything with your personal information before tossing it into the trash or recycling.

Picking the Right Service Before you spring for identity theft protection, which, at a minimum, is likely to set you back at least $150 a year, consider the no-cost measures you can take to protect yourself.

Fraud alerts. Some identity-theft protectors will immediately place fraud alerts on your files with the three main credit bureaus, whether you’ve been victimized or not.

Credit freezes. Freezes are far more effective than alerts. Icing your files prevents any company from accessing your credit unless you already do business with them, effectively sealing your records against any new creditor.

If you’ve detected fraudulent activity, notify the financial institution where the fraudulent activity occurred first so they can freeze your account. Depending on the situation, you’ll need to file a complaint with the FTC and your local police department, as well as investigate all of your other accounts. And keep a vigilant eye on that credit report.

COE prices on the up…AGAIN

5 March 2015 By admin Leave a Comment

The latest COE prices have been released today and here we take a look at it:

                                          4th March 2015                              17th Feb 2015

Cat A                                 $ 61,410                                            $57,199

Cat B                                  $68,668                                           $66,751

Cat C                                  $56,501                                            $53,202

Cat D                                 $5,501                                               $5,800

Cat E                                  $70,500                                           $67,901

COE prices are on the rise again. There are several factors that resulted in the increase. Firstly, the last two COE bidding we have seen that prices have been dropping and fundamentals of economics will show that potential car buyers have started to take advantage  of price drop by entering the market during this window.

Secondly, the recent SG budget has announced that the revised  carbon emission-based vehicle schemes(CEVS) will kick-in in July 2015, and has urged many buyers to buy now rather than later (see straits times). CEVS scheme is meant to encourage buyers to purchase low carbon emission models and the new revised scheme is such that only cars with 135g or lower carbon emissions per km will be entitled to rebates ($5k-$30k), while those above 185g will have to incur a surcharge. This is compared to the previous 160g for rebates and 210g for surcharges. I am not sure which models qualify for rebates or surcharge before the change in scheme, but we can probably guess certain popular car models might end up incurring surcharge than rebates.

My previous analysis was based on simple understanding of economics, but there will be factors that will play a part in influencing the price. Maybe if you consider getting a hybrid car, or an electric one (not sure if there is such a model? but i do see car parks having certain lots for electric cars) you won’t be too bothered by the scheme. But no doubt this change has urged buyers to take action now, and that maybe my ideal wait for $50k and below COE price (CAT A) might not come true eventually. I have heard from a friend that his recent purchased of Toyota Estima (parallel import) cost around $150k, which was a drop compared to 2014 prices. Prices may not drop significantly now but they sure are a bit lower than before.

Time to head to the showroom and enquire more.

Home is where the greatest accident risk is, warns top A&E doctor

6 February 2015 By admin Leave a Comment

Dr Cliff Mann says people do not appreciate the danger in everyday situations, unnecessarily adding to strain on NHS.

If you want to avoid busy A&E units then you should shun the trampoline, discourage the kids from putting Lego up their nose, and be rather more careful getting something out of the loft.

That is the advice of the leader of Britain’s emergency medicine doctors, Dr Cliff Mann, who wants to highlight activities such as horse riding, mountain biking and even DIY, which are more dangerous than you might think.

Improvements in road safety and workplaces mean that homes and leisure pursuits now cause far more injuries and deaths – 1,000 per month – than car crashes and industrial accidents, according to Mann, president of the College of Emergency Medicine.

Of the 22 million people a year who attend A&E, about seven million do so as a result of an accident. Overall, accidents cost A&E units about £1bn a year.

“The public don’t appreciate the risk in everyday situations. If you ask them they would probably say that they’re more likely to die either on the roads or at work than at home. Both are untrue,” said Mann, who is keen to ease the heavy burden on the NHS from accidents.

Personal Accident

9 December 2014 By admin Leave a Comment

Personal Accident insurance is a non-participating personal accident plan which provides financial assistance for expenses associated with accidents. Life can be full of uncertainties and nobody can predict what will happen in the future. Therefore, it is important to protect yourself and your loved ones from the consequences of an accident.
